Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF)

Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) is a new, non-invasive dental treatment that can be used in certain instances to treat problematic teeth. The molecular combination causes a chemical reaction that has been shown to arrest bacterial tooth decay in some circumstances.

It has been used for incipient caries, cavities, or tooth decay as well as tooth hypersensitivity. Silver diamine fluoride is known to cause staining of the tooth and gums. Dr. Doster can discuss with you the risks, benefits and limitations of silver diamine fluoride. This treatment is not appropriate for all circumstances.

Dr. Doster uses traditional SDF as well as the modern variation of the treatment that reduces the risk of staining.

Comprehensive exam, including standard imaging, is required before diagnosis and treatment with SDF.
